I was visiting a friend in nearby Ossining, NY. He lives fairly close, only a couple of miles away so I decided to walk. I had recently acquired a full spectrum infrared camera and was keen to try it out for some infrared black and white photography.
My plan was to first stop at the Ossining Reservoir, which is really not much more than a small pond. The reservoir is part of what I have only recently discovered is called the, Richard G. Wishnie Park. It has a fountain in the middle, and I thought I might get a few decent shots. It turned out to be more difficult than I thought. The problem was that the water from the fountain is pretty much white. The foliage behind it is green, but in infrared it too turns white. So, the water from the fountain tended to get lost in the background. After a couple of circuits around the pond (apparently three circuits make a mile) I gave up and moved on.
My next (and final stop) was at St. Paul’s On-the-Hill Episcopal Church, which is only a couple of blocks away from where my friend lives. As the name implies getting to this church requires ascending a fairly steep hill. It didn’t seem so bad at the time, the for the next couple of days I had aching legs and sore feet.
I also took a few pictures of things that caught my attention along the way.
All told the walk (including time spent taking pictures at the stops) took about 2 1/2 hours.
